Scindapsus Black Mamba (Scindapsus sp. ‘Black Mamba’) is a striking tropical climbing plant admired for its deep green to nearly black foliage and bold, sophisticated appearance. The “Black Mamba” name is used horticulturally rather than as a formally accepted botanical species name, so listing it as Scindapsus sp. ‘Black Mamba’ helps keep the product identification accurate. The genus Scindapsus consists primarily of tropical climbers, making this plant especially appealing to collectors of unusual foliage plants.

Plant Characteristics

Scindapsus Black Mamba is known for its thick, leathery-looking foliage with a smooth to subtly textured surface. The leaves develop an elongated to oval shape and display exceptionally dark coloration that can appear almost black under certain growing conditions.

Like other collectible Scindapsus, Black Mamba has a climbing growth habit and benefits from a moss pole, plank, or trellis as it matures. Providing vertical support can encourage stronger growth and progressively more impressive foliage.

Care Guide

Grow Scindapsus Black Mamba in bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which may damage the foliage. Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the growing medium begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain completely.

Maintain moderate to high humidity, preferably around 60–80%, and temperatures between 65–85°F. Use a loose, chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and coco coir. Avoid dense or constantly saturated soil. This collectible tropical plant is generally considered moderate care.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Scindapsus Black Mamba for its dramatic dark foliage, climbing habit, and distinctive appearance compared with more commonly available Scindapsus varieties. Its almost-black leaves make it an eye-catching choice for collectors building a unique tropical houseplant collection.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
