Raphidophora Foraminifera Sp. Sumatera (Rhaphidophora foraminifera) is a distinctive tropical climbing aroid valued for its textured green foliage and fascinating leaf development. Originating from the tropical forests of Sumatra, Indonesia, this collectible Rhaphidophora offers a natural jungle aesthetic and becomes increasingly impressive as it matures and climbs.

Plant Characteristics

This tropical aroid produces elongated to oval green leaves with a firm, slightly textured surface. As the plant matures, its foliage can develop characteristic fenestrations, giving older leaves a more dramatic and recognizable appearance. It has a climbing growth habit and benefits from a moss pole, wooden plank, or similar vertical support. With proper growing conditions and room to climb, mature plants can develop substantially larger foliage than juvenile specimens.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light for healthy, vigorous growth. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which may damage the foliage. Water when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain completely.

Raphidophora Foraminifera Sp. Sumatera prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, and warm temperatures of approximately 65–85°F. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid soil mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and other airy components. Good drainage and air circulation around the roots are important. Providing vertical support can encourage climbing and more mature leaf development. Overall, this plant is considered to have a moderate care level.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate this Indonesian Rhaphidophora for its unusual foliage development, climbing habit, and transformation from simpler juvenile leaves into more distinctive mature foliage. It is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a tropical climbing aroid with authentic Southeast Asian character.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
