Philodendron longilobatum (Philodendron longilobatum) is a distinctive climbing aroid admired for its elongated, deeply lobed foliage and elegant tropical form. Its sculptural leaves and strong climbing habit make it an appealing choice for collectors who enjoy unusual Philodendrons with dramatic leaf shapes and mature growth potential.

Plant Characteristics

Philodendron longilobatum develops elongated, deeply divided leaves with a smooth to slightly leathery texture and a striking architectural silhouette. As the plant matures, the lobes become more pronounced and the foliage can increase significantly in size under favorable growing conditions.

This species has a climbing growth habit and benefits from a moss pole, plank, or other vertical support. Providing support allows the plant to attach and climb naturally, often encouraging larger and more mature foliage. Its final size depends on growing conditions, support, light, humidity, and nutrition.

Care Guide

Grow Philodendron longilobatum in bright, indirect light for steady growth and well-developed foliage. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct afternoon sun, which may damage the leaves.

Water thoroughly when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, but avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. Moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, supports healthy tropical growth.

Maintain temperatures around 65–85°F and protect the plant from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below 55°F. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and other airy components. A pot with good drainage and sturdy climbing support is recommended. Care level is generally moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Philodendron longilobatum for its elongated, deeply lobed leaves and dramatic mature form. Its combination of distinctive foliage and climbing growth makes it an excellent addition to specialized Philodendron and tropical aroid collections.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
