Hoya Undulata Splash is a highly distinctive collector’s Hoya, scientifically known as Hoya undulata S.Rahayu & Rodda. Native to the wet tropical forests of Borneo, this rare climbing species is admired for its dramatic foliage, unusual growth pattern, and silvery splash markings that make every leaf visually unique.
Plant Characteristics
This tropical epiphytic vine produces firm, leathery leaves with irregularly wavy or finely undulated margins. Leaf shapes may vary from ovate and obovate to elongated oblanceolate forms, often displaying dark green coloration accented by silver-gray splash patterns and occasional purple tones. Its slender climbing stems can be trained around a trellis or allowed to trail, creating an impressive display as the plant matures. Under suitable indoor conditions, the vines may grow several feet long over time.
Care Guide
Provide bright, filtered indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain attractive leaf coloration. Avoid intense afternoon sun, which may scorch or overly stress the foliage. Water thoroughly when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, then allow excess water to drain completely.
Hoya Undulata Splash prefers high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow. Maintain warm temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C) and protect the plant from cold drafts. Use a loose, fast-draining epiphytic mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of quality potting medium. This variety is best suited to intermediate or experienced Hoya growers.
