Our priority is always strong roots, good condition, and quality selection in every plant we ship.

Hoya spartioides is one of the most unusual and distinctive Hoya species for collectors, known for its highly reduced foliage and grass-like, upright growth. Rather than producing the broad leaves commonly associated with Hoyas, this fascinating tropical species develops slender green stems that create a minimalist, architectural appearance unlike almost any other Hoya.

Plant Characteristics

Hoya spartioides has extremely reduced leaves that are often barely noticeable, giving the plant its characteristic leafless or rush-like appearance. Its slender, cylindrical green stems perform much of the plant’s photosynthetic work and grow in an upright to slightly arching habit.

As the plant matures, it can form a dense cluster of thin stems, creating a unique sculptural shape. Under suitable growing conditions, mature plants may also produce clusters of small Hoya flowers directly along the stems. Its compact but distinctive growth makes it especially appealing for collectors looking for unusual Hoya species.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light for healthy growth, with gentle morning sun generally tolerated. Avoid prolonged harsh afternoon sunlight.

Water when the growing medium has partially dried, but do not allow the roots to remain constantly wet. Hoya spartioides prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow.

Maintain temperatures between approximately 65–85°F. Use a loose, airy, well-draining substrate such as orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material. Good drainage is especially important for maintaining healthy roots. Care is generally considered moderate, making this plant best suited to growers with some experience with tropical Hoyas.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Hoya spartioides for its highly unusual leafless appearance, slender green stems, and unmistakable growth habit. It is an excellent choice for Hoya enthusiasts seeking a truly distinctive botanical specimen with strong collector appeal.

My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
