Hoya sp. ‘Takengon’

Hoya sp. ‘Takengon’ is a rare Indonesian Hoya collected from the Takengon region of Aceh, prized for its bold, highly textured foliage. This distinctive collector plant features thick, firm leaves with pronounced veining, gently undulating edges, and attractive silver splash that gives every leaf a unique appearance.

Plant Characteristics

The leaves are elongated to oval, sturdy, and slightly cardboard-like in texture, with visible veins and naturally wavy margins. Silver splash markings may vary from leaf to leaf, creating an individual pattern on every plant. Like many Hoyas, it develops a vining growth habit and can be displayed as a trailing plant or trained on a trellis. With proper support and care, its vines may extend several feet as the plant matures.

Care Guide

Light: Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and encourage stronger foliage coloration. Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves.

Water: Allow the growing medium to become partially dry between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, supports steady growth.

Temperature: Keep between 65–85°F (18–29°C), away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Soil: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining Hoya mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors value Hoya sp. ‘Takengon’ for its unusual combination of thick veined leaves, wavy edges, and variable silver splash. Its locality-based identity and dramatic foliage make it an excellent choice for rare Hoya collections and statement displays.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
