Hoya Sigillatis Silver Borneo is a distinctive collector’s Hoya admired for its compact foliage and heavy silver splash. Scientifically known as Hoya sigillatis T.Green, this rare tropical epiphyte from Borneo develops beautifully patterned leaves that become even more striking under bright, filtered light.
Plant Characteristics
This Silver Borneo form produces thick, slightly succulent leaves with an oval to elongated shape, a dark green base color, and dense silver speckling or splash. New growth may display bronze, reddish, or purple tones when exposed to stronger light. It has a trailing or climbing growth habit and performs beautifully in hanging baskets or on a small trellis. With proper care, mature vines can extend several feet indoors.
Care Guide
Provide bright, indirect light to maintain compact growth and prominent silver markings. Gentle morning sunlight is beneficial, but avoid intense midday sun that may scorch the foliage. Water when the upper portion of the growing medium has partially dried, allowing excess water to drain completely. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow. The preferred temperature range is approximately 65–85°F (18–29°C). Use a loose, fast-draining Hoya mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material. This plant is best suited to growers with intermediate Hoya care experience, although it adapts well when warmth, humidity, and careful watering are provided.
