Hoya Rintzii Borneo
Hoya Rintzii Borneo is a distinctive tropical wax plant prized for its bold foliage and naturally elegant climbing form. Scientifically known as Hoya rintzii, this uncommon collector species originates from western Malesia, including Borneo, Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia. Its sculptural leaves and refined growth habit make it an excellent choice for rare Hoya collections and tropical indoor displays.
Plant Characteristics
This Hoya develops thick, fleshy leaves that are elliptic to ovate, typically dark green with rounded tips, visible venation, and occasional gray or silver markings. Individual leaves commonly measure about 2–4 inches long, although mature specimens may produce larger foliage. Hoya rintzii grows as a twining, epiphytic vine and performs beautifully when trained around a hoop, trellis, or moss pole. Indoors, mature vines can trail or climb several feet under favorable conditions. Established plants may produce rounded clusters of small cream-white to pale yellow waxy flowers with softly contrasting centers.

Provide bright, indirect light for compact growth and healthy foliage. Gentle morning sunlight is beneficial, but intense afternoon sun may scorch the leaves. Water thoroughly when most of the potting mix has dried, and never allow the roots to remain waterlogged. Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 50–70%, with good airflow. Keep temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C) and protect the plant from cold drafts. Use a chunky, fast-draining Hoya mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and other airy materials.
