Product Overview

Hoya mitrata ‘Silver’ (Hoya mitrata Kerr) is a distinctive collectible Hoya admired for its sculptural foliage and eye-catching silver-toned markings. Native to the wet tropical regions of Southeast Asia, this climbing epiphytic plant brings an unusual, botanical character to indoor Hoya collections.

Plant Characteristics

This variety produces firm, fleshy green leaves decorated with attractive silver splashing that may vary naturally from leaf to leaf. Its foliage develops along flexible climbing or trailing vines, allowing the plant to be displayed in a hanging pot or trained upward on a trellis.

As the plant becomes established, its vines can grow several feet long under suitable indoor conditions. Mature size, leaf shape, and the amount of silver coloration may vary depending on genetics, light exposure, humidity, nutrition, and the growing environment.

Care Guide

Place Hoya mitrata ‘Silver’ in bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sunlight can support stronger growth, but harsh afternoon sun should be avoided because it may damage the foliage.

Water thoroughly when the upper section of the growing medium has partially dried. Do not allow the roots to remain constantly wet. Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, together with consistent airflow.

Keep the plant in temperatures between 65–85°F and protect it from cold drafts or prolonged temperatures below 55°F. Use a loose, chunky, fast-draining medium containing orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material. A pot with drainage holes is essential. Its care level is best considered moderate. General Hoya cultivation favors bright light and a well-draining medium that dries partially between waterings.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Hoya mitrata ‘Silver’ for its uncommon growth form, variable silver foliage, and strong tropical appearance. Each plant develops its own distinctive leaf pattern, making it a rewarding addition to a curated Hoya collection.
