Hoya Macrophylla Red (Hoya macrophylla Blume) is a striking tropical Hoya admired for its large, textured foliage and distinctive reddish tones that can become more pronounced under suitable growing conditions. With its bold leaf structure and climbing growth habit, this collectible Hoya makes an impressive addition to indoor tropical plant collections.
Plant Characteristics
Hoya Macrophylla Red develops large, elongated to oval leaves with a thick, firm texture and prominent venation. The foliage can display attractive reddish or bronze coloration, particularly on newer growth or when grown under brighter filtered light.
This tropical epiphytic Hoya has a vigorous vining growth habit and performs well when trained onto a trellis or other climbing support. Mature vines can grow several feet long under favorable indoor or greenhouse conditions, while individual leaf size may increase as the plant becomes established.
Care Guide
Provide bright, indirect light for healthy growth and attractive foliage coloration. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense midday sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Allow the upper portion of the growing medium to partially dry before watering again. Hoya Macrophylla Red prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good air circulation.
