Hoya glabra Sp. Sumatera (Hoya glabra) is a distinctive tropical Hoya admired for its broad foliage, elegant growth habit, and lush collector appeal. Native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, this collectible Hoya stands out with its impressive leaves and refined appearance, making it a beautiful addition to indoor plant collections, tropical greenhouses, and Hoya displays.

Plant Characteristics

Hoya glabra Sp. Sumatera produces broad, elongated to oval leaves with a smooth surface, firm texture, and attractive green coloration. As the plant matures under favorable growing conditions, the foliage can become noticeably larger and more impressive.

It has a climbing and vining growth habit and benefits from a trellis, pole, or other vertical support. Mature vines can grow several feet long, while final leaf size and overall plant form may vary depending on light, humidity, nutrition, and growing environment.

Care Guide

Grow Hoya glabra Sp. Sumatera in bright, indirect light for healthy foliage and steady growth. Allow the upper portion of the growing medium to partially dry before watering again, as constantly wet soil may cause root problems.

Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good air circulation. This tropical Hoya prefers temperatures around 65–85°F and should be protected from cold drafts.

Use a loose, chunky, well-draining growing medium containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and other airy components. A container with good drainage is essential. Providing climbing support can also encourage stronger vines and larger mature foliage. Care level is generally moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Hoya glabra Sp. Sumatera for its bold foliage, large-leaf potential, tropical appearance, and climbing growth habit. It is an excellent choice for Hoya enthusiasts looking for a distinctive large-leaf Hoya that adds texture and visual impact to a collection.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
