Hoya Dischidia Major, botanically known as Dischidia major, is a distinctive tropical epiphyte valued for its unusual foliage and trailing growth habit. Its sculptural leaves and compact vining form make it an appealing choice for collectors looking for something different from more common Hoya and Dischidia varieties.
Plant Characteristics
Dischidia major produces thick, fleshy green leaves with a smooth to slightly leathery texture. The foliage has an unusual rounded to elongated shape, and mature plants can develop modified pouch-like leaves that add even more visual interest.
This tropical epiphytic plant has a trailing and climbing growth habit, making it well suited for hanging baskets, mounted displays, or trellises. With proper support and stable growing conditions, mature vines can extend several feet over time while maintaining a relatively lightweight, cascading appearance.
Care Guide
Provide bright, indirect light for healthy growth, while avoiding prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight. Water when the growing medium is partially dry, as Dischidia major prefers good moisture balance but does not tolerate constantly saturated roots.
Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, together with good air circulation. Temperatures between 65–85°F are generally suitable for this tropical plant.
