Hoya aff. lambii ‘Red’ is a distinctive collectible Hoya appreciated for its bold foliage, tropical climbing habit, and attractive reddish tones that can become more noticeable under favorable growing conditions. Closely resembling the accepted species Hoya lambii T.Green, a Hoya native to Sabah, Borneo, this plant makes an eye-catching addition to collections focused on unusual large-leaf tropical Hoyas.

Plant Characteristics

Hoya aff. lambii ‘Red’ develops substantial, elongated to oval foliage with a firm, leathery texture and pronounced venation. The leaves provide strong visual impact, while reddish or bronze-toned coloration may appear depending on maturity, light exposure, and growing conditions.

Like Hoya lambii, it has a vining or climbing growth habit and benefits from a trellis, pole, or other vertical support. As the plant matures, its vines can become increasingly vigorous and its foliage more impressive, making it especially suitable for collectors who enjoy architectural Hoyas.

Care Guide

Grow Hoya aff. lambii ‘Red’ in bright, indirect light. Gentle filtered sunlight can support healthy growth and coloration, but harsh midday sun should be avoided.

Water thoroughly once the upper portion of the growing medium begins to dry. Maintain moderate to high humidity, preferably around 60–80%, together with good airflow. Ideal temperatures are approximately 65–85°F.

Use a chunky, well-draining Hoya mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and other airy components. Avoid dense or constantly wet soil, as good root aeration is important. Providing climbing support is recommended. Overall, this collectible Hoya is best considered a moderate-care tropical plant.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Hoya aff. lambii ‘Red’ for its substantial foliage, climbing growth, pronounced leaf structure, and potential reddish coloration. Its combination of large leaves and distinctive tropical character makes it especially appealing to enthusiasts building a diverse Hoya collection.

My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
