Homalomena Red Thrick Sp. Sumatra (Homalomena sp. “Red Thrick Sumatra”) is a distinctive tropical aroid collected for its bold foliage, compact growth, and warm reddish tones. Originating from Sumatra, Indonesia, this collectible Homalomena brings a lush, exotic character to indoor plant collections and is especially appealing to enthusiasts of unusual Southeast Asian aroids. The plant is currently sold by Aroid Market under the cultivar/trade name “Homalomena red thrick Sp Sumatra.”

Plant Characteristics

This Homalomena develops broad, attractive leaves with a substantial texture and a dense, self-heading growth habit. New foliage may display warmer reddish or bronze tones before maturing, while the plant gradually forms a fuller clump from its central growing point. Unlike climbing aroids, Homalomena typically stays compact and upright, making it well suited for shelves, plant cabinets, and tropical indoor displays.

With proper care, mature plants can develop a dense cluster of foliage, although final height and leaf size will vary depending on growing conditions, nutrition, humidity, and maturity.

Care Guide

Grow Homalomena Red Thrick Sp. Sumatra in bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sun, which may damage the foliage. Water when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, keeping the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged.

For best growth, maintain humidity around 60–80% and temperatures of approximately 65–85°F. Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as coco chips, orchid bark, perlite, and other airy components. Good drainage and consistent warmth are especially important. Overall care level is moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate Homalomena Red Thrick Sp. Sumatra for its compact tropical form, distinctive foliage, and Indonesian origin. It is an excellent choice for collectors looking beyond common houseplants toward unusual Homalomena and Southeast Asian aroids.

My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
