Product Overview

Anthurium papillilaminum × portillae is a highly collectible hybrid admired for its dark, velvety foliage and elegant heart-shaped leaves. Combining the dramatic appearance of Anthurium papillilaminum with the refined form of Anthurium portillae, this tropical hybrid brings strong visual contrast and a sophisticated collector appeal to any indoor plant collection.

Plant Characteristics

This Anthurium hybrid typically develops elongated, cordate leaves with a soft velvet-like surface and visible contrasting veins. New leaves may emerge in lighter, bronze, or reddish tones before gradually deepening into rich green or darker shades as they mature.

The plant has a compact, self-heading growth habit, producing foliage from a central stem rather than developing long vines. Under stable indoor growing conditions, mature leaves can become significantly larger, although final size, shape, coloration, and venation may vary because each hybrid seedling expresses different traits from its parent plants.

Care Guide

Place Anthurium papillilaminum × portillae in bright, indirect light. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which may scorch its delicate velvet foliage.

Water thoroughly when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry. Keep the substrate lightly moist, but never waterlogged. This collectible velvet Anthurium prefers humidity around 60–80% with consistent airflow.

Maintain temperatures between 65–85°F and protect the plant from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes. Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a moisture-retentive component such as coco coir or sphagnum moss. Its care level is best considered moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors appreciate this hybrid for its unpredictable combination of dark velvet leaves, elegant shape, and prominent venation. Because every plant can develop slightly different characteristics, each specimen offers a distinctive appearance and genuine collector value.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
