Anthurium ‘Michelle’ (Doc Block), botanically classified as an Anthurium hybrid, is a highly distinctive velvet-leaf Anthurium developed through Doc Block’s selective breeding program. It is especially admired for its dramatic heart-shaped foliage, with new leaves emerging in rich burgundy-purple tones before gradually maturing into deep green with striking contrasting veins.
Plant Characteristics
This collectible Anthurium produces broad, heart-shaped leaves with a luxurious velvety texture and prominent venation. Emerging foliage can display violet, burgundy, or deep purple tones, while mature leaves develop an intense dark-green appearance with bright contrasting veins. The plant has an upright, self-heading growth habit rather than a climbing form. Under favorable conditions, mature plants can reach approximately 12–24 inches in height.
Care Guide
Grow Anthurium ‘Michelle’ in bright, filtered or indirect light, avoiding prolonged harsh direct sunlight. Allow the upper layer of the growing medium to partially dry before watering again, while keeping the root zone evenly moist but never waterlogged.
Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow. Temperatures between approximately 65–85°F are suitable for active tropical growth.
