Product Overview

Anthurium Black Velvet Indo Type × (Zara × Michelle) is a distinctive hybrid Anthurium created for collectors who appreciate dark, velvety foliage and strong leaf structure. This collectible tropical plant combines the dramatic appearance of an Indonesian black velvet type with the desirable characteristics associated with Zara and Michelle hybrid lines.

Plant Characteristics

This Anthurium hybrid is expected to develop broad, heart-shaped leaves with a rich, dark green to near-black appearance under suitable growing conditions. The foliage typically has a soft, velvety surface, defined venation, and a bold silhouette that becomes increasingly impressive as the plant matures.

It has a compact, self-heading growth habit, producing new leaves from a central stem rather than developing long climbing vines. With proper care, mature leaves may become significantly larger and display deeper coloration, stronger texture, and more pronounced veins. Because this is a seed-grown hybrid, leaf shape, color, venation, and mature size may vary naturally between individual plants.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and dark foliage. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which may scorch or fade the leaves. Water thoroughly when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, but do not allow the roots to remain constantly wet.

Maintain humidity around 60–80% with consistent air circulation. Ideal temperatures range from 65–85°F, and the plant should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.

Use a chunky, well-draining Anthurium soil mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a moisture-retentive component such as coco coir or sphagnum moss. A pot with good drainage is essential. This hybrid is best suited to growers with moderate Anthurium care experience.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors value this Anthurium hybrid for its potential to produce dark velvet leaves, bold venation, and unique characteristics from both parent lines. Each seed-grown plant is genetically individual, making every specimen a one-of-a-kind addition to a tropical plant collection.

I am so incredibly late on posting this video. This plant came in 3 weeks ago now and I’m just getting to posting this and I almost thought I wasn’t going to. My editing software was not working for anything, but I got it all fixed so now I can start getting out lots of videos we’ve recorded recently!🪴
