Overview Of The Philodendron Paraiso Verde
Philodendron Paraiso Verde is another beautiful plant from the philodendron family. This plant has long, stunning, beautiful leaves that grow on small stems. If you're looking for a beautiful, low-maintenance plant for indoors, you're sure to love this species. This Philo is quite rare so it might be a bit difficult to get hold of it, but if you get one it is a worthy purchase and a wonderful addition to your houseplant collection.
Philodendron Paraiso Verde is a super rare fast climbing, large-leaf Philodendron capable of climbing 10 feet in a single season. The vines on this highly variegated monster grow to one inch or more in diameter. In captivity, indoors on a totem, Paraiso Verde is easy to grow and may only need to be trimmed once a year or so. Truly beautiful!

The two popular types of Philodendron are climbers and non-climbing varieties. The climbers, are suited to the average room as long as you provide firm support for the stems. The climbing Philodendrons produce aerial roots from the stems. Most of the non-climbers are capable of growing into immense plants with large, deeply lobed leaves. These are more suited to buildings with large open spaces. Average wamth is required, not less than 55F in winter. 'Paraiso Verde' (which translates as 'Green Paradise') is a climbing philodendren which has elongated lobed leaves with a marbled variegation.

Classification
Family: Arum

Subfamily: Araceae

Genus: Philodendron

  • About the Genus Philodendron
Philodendrons are “tree-loving” plants in the sense that they grow by climbing over trunks and branches next to them. They first appeared in the early 1640s and there are 6 different species identified and collected. Soon, several different additions came into this category from different parts of the world.

The genus was created and officially named as Philodendron by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott in 1829. Currently, a total of 800 species fall under this umbrella. They are all unique in terms of shape, color, and size, but they are all equally popular for being beautiful and bright. Philodendron is a very popular type of ornamental plant.

  • Origin and Distribution
Philodendron plants were first identified in the 1600s, as previously mentioned, and since then hundreds of species have been added to this family. Most of these plants are found growing in tropical America as well as the West Indies. However, this plant is very famous for its diverse habitat. They prefer moist, shady environments in tropical rainforests, which is why indoor settings are perfect for them. They are also found growing beside riverbanks and marshes, so it is evident that they like humidity.

Characteristics of the Philodendron Paraiso Verde
  • Foliage and Stem
Its leaves are its main feature and it is not surprising that this plant is popular for this reason. They have long, beautiful green leaves that sometimes have distinct green streaks on their surface. These variations depend on the environment in which they are placed.

If you receive optimal and equal amounts of sunlight, the entire leaf will have an even color. In cases of irregular scattering of sunlight, you may see some light and dark green hues on the leaves. In addition, the leaves can grow several centimeters in length from 12 to 25 cm.
But the stems are smaller than the leaves. If the plant grows larger, it may need support to keep it upright as the stems will not be able to support the weight of the leaves. The use of external supports in the form of taller rods or vases would be ideal.
  • Evergreen
All Philodendrons have evergreen foliage. They stay bright and beautiful all year round, unaffected by the seasons.

  • Tall
In total, under good care, this plant can grow from 25 to 38 cm in height. As mentioned earlier, they may require some sort of turbulence once they reach their maximum size.

  • Temperature Tolerance
Since Philodendron Paraiso Verde comes from tropical plants, they can grow well in warmer temperatures. But the cold didn't suit him. It is best if you keep this plant indoors or in a warmer place at home during the freezing winters. Extreme temperature fluctuations are not well tolerated by this species.

  • Humidity Tolerance
Like all philodendrons, this plant loves humidity in the air. This Philo prefers high levels of 65 to 70% humidity in the air and can tolerate higher percentages of this. Thus, if you live in a humid environment, your plants will be very happy.

  • Drought resistant
Since these plants like humidity in the air and humidity in the soil, they may not do well under dry conditions and lack of water. So try not to test their abilities and keep them well hydrated.

  • Pressure Tolerance
The Philodendron Paraiso Verde plant has tough, leathery leaves that not only stop excess moisture from escaping the plant but also protect it from stress. Thus, the plant will not immediately die or collapse under conditions of acute stress. However, consistent external pressure should be avoided.

  • Resistance to Diseases and Pests
Despite their sturdy structure, Verde plants are not completely resistant to diseases and pests. Common problems facing this species include blight, tip burn, leaf spot, and brown discoloration of the leaves. Pest problems include aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, and scale aphids.

The common factor among all these problems is that plants are very susceptible to attack if they are under inadequate or unsuitable living conditions. Too high humidity or waterlogged soil can be an open threat to pests and infections.
So, the simplest way to get it all together is to have regular checks on your plants. Make sure your plants are always clean and dry, and that no excess dust or moisture has accumulated on their surfaces.

If such an incident occurs, immediately isolate the plant to control the spread or insects, and use appropriate methods to control it. These methods include using insecticides, fungicides, and other commercial products to kill unwanted guests.
  • Growth
The growth rate of these species is highly dependent on the conditions in which they grow. Under an optimal environment, Philodendron Paraiso Verde plants grow very quickly and begin to germinate within a few weeks. Otherwise, they can take months to grow to a sizeable size. But this is not a matter of concern. If you give it the best you can, just make sure the plant grows healthy if not fast.

  • Toxicity
Like all other philodendrons, this one also contains a harmful substance called calcium oxalate crystals. These crystals cannot be digested to any degree. They can cause physical signs and symptoms such as swelling, pain, and inflammation of the body, from the mouth to the stomach. So, this plant should be out of reach of children and pets. If accidentally swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

  • Durability
Because these plants are perennial and so easy to care for, they can last for a very long time. They are a rare plant so it is a sizable investment. Luckily, they are quite affordable and will live for a long time so your investment will not go to waste.

  • Maintenance
Although classified as rare and unique, surprisingly it is quite easy to maintain. They don't ask for anything extra in terms of money, time, and effort, so they're perfect for people who have busy schedules or don't want to spend a lot of money on their plants on a regular basis.
  • Dormancy
During winter (in four seasons areas), this plant tends to grow more slowly. You have to understand that over-fertilizing them or watering them more often won't make them grow any faster. Leave them alone, water them as needed, and avoid multiplying or pruning them during this period. In a few months, the plant will return to normal.

Philodendron Paraiso Verde needs.

Philodendron Paraiso Verde care requires moist soil to keep the plant well hydrated. Use a high-quality fertilizer and provide plenty of sun. Just make sure it's not in direct sunlight. This plant has a beautiful natural growth habit so you don't need to do too much maintenance and pruning.

  • Water
Water the plant frequently but make sure the soil has enough time to dry before each session. If you decide to re-water the soil that is already wet, you will saturate the soil and the plant will suffocate. To make sure this doesn't happen, feel the soil texture with your fingers or use a moisture meter to check that the top of the soil is dry. Only then water the plants again.

The water requirements of this plant tend to vary between seasons, increasing during warm summers and decreasing during winter.
  • Soil
Proper drainage of the soil is an important part of its requirements. If the soil is waterlogged, the roots will rot and die. Thus, the texture of the soil and its ability to drain and absorb the right amount of water are important factors that you should not miss. You can use a rich, organic mix of regular growing media for this plant. Remember to keep it moist.

  • Sunlight
In terms of light, this plant needs a lot of sunlight, but not directly. You can place the plant in a well-lit room behind blinds and light curtains. But giving them direct exposure to sunlight can seriously damage the leaves. First of all, it will burn it. Second, if they are variegated plants, it will spoil the beautiful pattern. Since they are native to the tropics, they prefer shade to direct sunlight. If you're having trouble finding a suitable spot for them, you can always use shade to soften the light hitting the leaves.

  • Temperature
This plant does not have a specific temperature range, at least not a popular one. But it is evident that this tropical plant prefers warmer temperatures than cold ones. Therefore, keep this plant away from direct exposure to harsh temperature fluctuations, such as air conditioners, ventilators, and directly in front of an open window.

  • Humidity
As previously mentioned, this plant requires a minimum humidity level of 65 to 70%, and can also grow well in quantities outside this level. To ensure plants live in maximum humidity, there are several things you can do.

Indoor humidifiers make life easier for houseplant enthusiasts. You can set it up in an indoor garden and let it do its job. Otherwise, you can mist the plant regularly with distilled water in a spray bottle. Placing the plant in a pebble tray filled with water is also an effective home way to maximize the humidity around the Philodendron.

  • Fertilizer
Regular fertilization depends on the type of fertilizer used. If you are using a slow-release fertilizer, three sessions a year will suffice. Another quick release fertilizer can be applied for weeks, 6 to 8 weeks to be exact.

  • Repotting
If you see plant roots growing out of the drainage holes, it may need to be re-potted. Such occurrences usually do not occur for many years and only require re-potting every year or every few years. The best time to do this is in the spring. Avoid doing it during winter.

  • Care and Pruning
For good and healthy growth, you need to make sure that the plant is always clean and dry. Wet the plant with distilled water or Neem oil and clean it. Not only will this make your plants look shiny and bright, but it will also keep insects and pests away.
